Debate Team Qualifies for State!

Please help me congratulate Beverly Balasu and Angel Ornelas for qualifying for state this weekend at UIL districts. Beverly and Angel went undefeated at the qualifying tournament, earning the top seed in elimination debates. After a 13 hour day and 5 debates against tough opponents from Sunset, Gilliam, and other DISD schools, Beverly and Angel advanced to the finals of the district tournament earning one of two spots at the state tournament.

We will be going to Austin over spring break to compete against schools from all over Texas. Attached are some photos of Beverly and Angel with their medals and two with the team from Irma Rangel that earned the other spot at state for our district.

If you see these two students please congratulate them!

Cross-Examination Debate at City Championships

Please assist me in congratulating the following students on their performance at the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance Spring City Championship Tournament. We competed in both the novice and junior varsity division.

Beverly Balasu was the CHAMPION of the Junior Varsity Division, remaining undefeated and winning over teams from A Maceo New Tech and Barack Obama in semi-finals and finals. She also won 3rd place individual speaker. This comes on the heels of Beverly and her partner Angel Ornelas winning the JV division at the previous tournament. She's also been chosen as a recipient of a varsity letter jacket. Go Beverly!!

Rudraksh Garg was a semi-finalist in the novice division, taking home 3rd place and the 5th place individual speaker award.

The team of Arush Singh and Christian Alcorn also had a great showing, coming in 5th place as a team and taking 4th and 7th speaker, respectively.

Thank you everyone for your support this year!
